My aunt had furniture shipped to me from Arizona! It is beautiful!
Broken
I know its been awhile but I have good reason! I am in a cast on my dominant arm.. so typing is awful. I’m going to start updating photo only for awhile! So here goes!

Ten Pounds Down!
It is official! I have lost 10 pounds since I changed my lifestyle! It has been just over a month since I made the switch to a Vegan life style. September 3rd, 2013 I weighed 200 lbs.. Today? 187 🙂 13 pounds I guess, but the first ten are important!
September was kind of a rough month for me. I got pretty sick towards the end but during the whole month I had random headaches and migraines and I had low energy. I attributed everything to allergies but really it was my body getting rid of a lot of harmful cells in my body.
To look at my food log for the last month go HERE!
Sickly Sick Sick
My least favorite thing in the entire world is being sick. I hate it. I hate the headaches, nausea, and body aches that come with being sick. I laid in bed all day yesterday, not sleeping, but really just laying there, miserable. The question is what do you do when you’re sick and you don’t want to take medicine. Skinny Bitch says your body has the ability to fight sickness on its own, if you give it the chance. Symptoms are the body’s way to display of sickness, showing that the body is trying to get rid of an illness. Taking medicines to curb the symptoms not only affects the body’s built in system, but also has multiple side effects that can cause additional harm to the body.
A fever is the body’s attempt to raise the body temperature in response to an infection. One purpose of a fever is to raise the body’s temperature enough to kill off certain bacteria and viruses sensitive to temperature changes. Since the fever is actually helping rid the body of infection, why would you take medicine to lower your fever and keep it from doing its job? The opposing argument is that it makes you feel better, and some people die of fever vs. illness.
The same argument is made for runny noses and congestion. The body usually develops a runny nose when it is trying to rid itself of cold or flu viruses or irritants and allergens from the body. Taking medicines such as Afrin to dry out and clear the nasal cavities forces the body to harbor the issues the body was trying to expel in the first place. It also has awful side effects and has resulted in addiction for many users.
The end game is getting better, the question is how do I get there?
Busy Busy Weekend!
I know I did not update at all this week but I was very busy! It was all legal/law school stuff and I will not bore you with the details 🙂 Good News: I lost 10 lbs! and I biked around 40 miles this week!
This weekend started off wonderfully! I worked at the DA’s office and went to Allison & Mitch’s engagement party Friday night! My roommate is so wonderful! She asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding! Yay! Just another reason to slim down, wedding photos are always fun!
Saturday morning I got up and ran a 5K for Run or Dye OKC! Minus the fact that the weather was awful, it was a lot of fun! The race was delayed for an hour and a half due to lightening but it cleared up enough to run! We finished the race in 36 minutes (12min/mi) which is great considering I did not train. Did I mention I raced in a tutu?
!

After the race we had Hatton Sumner’s dinner with the whole crew at The Wedge – Downtown OKC! A. I love pizza. B. The Wedge has vegan crust and cheese so it was the perfect location for dinner!
Today I woke up feeling awful, my nose is stuffy, my head is foggy, I can’t breathe, and I’m pretty sure it is because I ran in the rain yesterday. Michael and I took Moose to Whole Foods to get breakfast, then we went on an 8 mile bike ride before I had to be at work.
We rode all through downtown, around Myriad Gardens, and back! If my body was not exhausted after that it will be soon. From 4-6, I have powderpuff football practice, which means more running.. yay! Come on body! I know you are sore, exhausted, achy, and you can’t breathe… but we can do this! Wish me luck
What a Crazy Amazing Weekend
This weekend began wonderfully! After work Friday, Michael and I went to the Oklahoma City Greek Festival!
Then we went to Dallas! I spent most of the weekend with Abi!
My weekend ended with a Maroon 5 concert! Michael’s dad got us tickets, but we didn’t know how great the ticket would be! Premium seating, delivered drinks, and a wonderful view!
Living in Oklahoma City
iOS 7 is out!
So I’ve officially updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7! I am very excited for all the new changes! The LA Times says the software update may be a bigger change than the introduction of the iPhone 5s/c! They release a new iPhone roughly every year, so as much as I want my phone to open with my FINGERPRINT; I know it is fiscally responsible to wait until next year when they release the iPhone 6 (fingers crossed it can display holograms or something ridiculous like that.)
iOS 7 has a cleaner look, everything that was once black is now white; they adopted a minimalist approach! They improved the multitasking function, added a control center, and new photo options and organization. Also, the iPhone apps faces were redesigned, and now if you move your iPhone around the background moves with you!
One of the features I am super excited about is AirDrop! What I assume the comparative feature would be in the market would be the Samsung smartphone’s ability to bump two phones together to wirelessly transfer photos and other files. AirDrop essentially does the same thing by using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to create a temporary connection between two devices in order to transfer files.
Another fun update occurred in Camera. Camera has a slicker look, and gives you more tools to edit photos. The app also provides in screen options for switching between shooting modes: Photo, Panorama, Square, and Video. The new square mode changes the aspect ratio from a rectangle to a square. This feature makes photos more Instagram-friendly.\
Also, Siri now searches TWITTER! Yay! He (she can now be a boy!) can also play my favorite songs, change my settings, and answer follow-up questions! I am very excited for my new operating system!
Stories from a Stranger
Yesterday, I walked into a mattress firm with the intent of borrowing a mattress bag and buying a foundation (not important for this story). Instead I met a wonderful man named Bob.
I will finish this story tomorrow, stay tuned for the abbreviated life story from the widowed son of a dairy farmer who has five extremely successful daughters, a mechanical engineering degree, and the most riveting life story you’ve ever heard.
The Stories
The manager at Mattress Firm didn’t have a queen sized bag we could have but he did have a lifetime full of stories to share. When we mentioned that we were students, he inquired about our lives. We told him we were students at OCU Law, and he told us he had five daughters who walked similar paths. None of his daughters have gone through law school (yet), but they are extremely successful. We were only there for a little bit, so I want to share with you the bits and pieces that I remember, and I will likely not do them justice.
Stephanie, his oldest daughter, is a pediatric surgeon. She is married to another extraordinary surgeon from Thailand. When she was an infant she had an issue with her (clavicle-maybe collarbone, which prevented her from ingesting liquids?). Prior to discovering this issue, one day while feeding her a bottle of milk, she died in his arms. Luckily for him, there was a pediatric surgeon in the store, who said “if you let me, I can save her.” Bob watched as the surgeon opened up his daughter, poured the milk out of her body, massaged her heart, and life came back into her body. After the surgeon saved her life, he turned to Bob and said “I know what is wrong, if you let me, I can fix her.” Sixteen surgeries later, Stephanie was out of the woods. When the surgeon asked her what she wanted to be, she said I want to be a pediatric surgeon, like you. The surgeon invited her into a mentoring program at a young age, and today says she is 500x better than he was at her age. Even though she helps dying children every day, her drive comes from being saved by the same type of person, and knows that she must keep saving others. Bob says that there are rough days, she comes over, crawls into his lap, and says she can’t take another day. He tells her that God gave her a gift, and she must use it, reminds her of all of the children her gift has saved, and holds his grown child until she decides she has the strength to go on. Stephanie is one of few surgeons who has the ability to operate an un-invasive robot that can sow up premature infant heart valves.
More to come!
Cheating for Cookies
I walked into the law library today on my way to Income Tax class, and there were Tim’s cookies. Tim is a reference librarian at Oklahoma City University School of Law who often makes cookies from scratch for the students on special days. Today is Constitution Day! While most people think it is just another Tuesday, law students everywhere are looking at displays on the Constitution and the rights It provides for Americans everywhere.
But Constitution Day is not the point; Tim made cookies. He made chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and his favorite, the snickerdoodle. The first time, I just walked by them, thinking about taking a cookie, but holding out. The second time, I lifted the lid, but walked away. The third time, I took a cookie. I took a bite out of that cookie, and before I could chew a rush of flavors hit my mouth. But they were not good flavors; salt, dairy, egg, and milk chocolate. I spit it out and gave the rest of the cookie to my friend Erin. Don’t get me wrong, the cookies are delicious. I have always loved one of Tim’s cookies! But, last week I gave up refined sugar, and that was the first time I tried to eat some since. One week doesn’t seem like a long time; it doesn’t seem like long enough for your taste buds to change/heal. Skinny Bitch says once you stop putting crap into your body, your taste buds heal and develop the ability to distinguish the flavors. Today, that proved to be true. I am not proud that I gave into the cookie desire.. but I am happy to find out that while my mind wants it, my body does not.
